FASHION PORTFOLIO PREPARATION PROGRAMME

Do You Know How to Prepare Your Visual Identity That Expresses Who You  Are?

You will find the answers to critical questions such as “What is a portfolio, why is it necessary, how should it be prepared, what benefits does a well-prepared portfolio offer to you, what are portfolio preparation techniques” in this intense 9-month programme. The programme will offer you the basic training in portfolio preparation, which you will need for advanced studies in fashion.
This programme is designed for students, who are 14 or older, and who would like to study at IMA or similar domestic/foreign fashion education institutions, or at Fashion Design Departments of Universities’ Faculties of Fine Arts. This programme will provide you with the skills to be able to express and present your ideas visually by combining your creativity with visual communication skills in the framework of fashion.
This programme is prepared to provide the infrastructure for the student’s design education in the field of fashion, enable the student to develop investigative and experimental approaches and prepare a series of projects that will enrich his/her portfolio.
Programme Content
The courses offered as part of this programme are Introduction to Fashion Design, Colour, Visual Research, Drawing Techniques, and Portfolio Presentation Techniques. This programme is complemented by workshops, presentations, field trips, and one-on-one interviews.
Drawing Techniques
Drawing is a designer’s classic way of self-expression. Throughout the programme, the goal is for the student to learn the different methods in patterns, fashion figure drawing, and basic drawing techniques, to be able to use materials, and to put these into practice effectively.
Visual Research
Observation is the most important point of initiate for design research. Collecting and archiving these observations constitute the most important element in developing designs. The visual diary comprises observations and evaluations as well as notes taken in the courses throughout the programme and other relevant materials. The visual diary is a personal material where you reflect your experiences—it helps you archive and enhance your thoughts on the learning experience.
Photoshop Applications
In order to undertake a T-shirt Printing Project, you conduct visual research departing from a theme, you learn about the basic tools necessary for creating a print pattern, and you create a mini t-shirt collection. You are introduced to the tools of the software, layers, and masks, and you perform applications of sketches and design drawings.

Introduction to Design
In this unit, with an overview of basic principles of design you learn about colours, using colours, material selection, and methods for preparing colour, theme, and fabric boards.
Design Projects
You learn about the projects necessary for presenting your ideas orally and visually and for preparing a portfolio, and you continue with projects. During this process, research and experimental projects, such as visual reserch, Transformation Project, Circles Project, Re-cycling Project, and Photography Projects, are undertaken by the student. Projects, by which students can learn to present their skills in different areas, are developed with artistry.
Portfolio Presentation Techniques
Students examine examples of portfolios prepared in different fields and understand what must be included in a portfolio. Students learn to do aesthetic works expressing themselves, learn about techniques of correction and simplification, assessment, and work on effective presentation and visual communication techniques. The programme is supported by critique sessions, which are held to inform the students’ development and progress at the end of each term. At the end of the programme, in light of one-on-one student and instructor interviews, the portfolio is finalized for perfection.
